1. Accommodations

Being sustainable does not mean taking away your comfortability! It means being aware how you will impact the planet but with choosing the right accommodations, you will ensure that your contributions stay within the community. Find hotels or rentals that are locally owned and operated wherever you are going!

2. Destination

The destination matters a lot because you need to be conscious of the problems that the locals face in a day to day basis. Is there fair wage and equality? Is there a lack of natural resources? For example, not enough food or water that the locals have to travel far or simply these are not to their reach. Are animals being exploited for tourists’ activities? You need to have in mind that those animals are being torture for you to be able to tough them! Be aware of the suffer that these creatures go through for tourists’ to be able to ride them or tough them!

3. Eat Local

The more local produce you eat, the less transportation and carbon you will used plus you will be supporting the locals. Eat more plant-based foods for greater sustainability.

4. Luggage

Only pack biodegradable products! Many personal care products have toxic chemicals that pollute the water and the environment.

5. Souvenirs

Tourism and endangered species often go hand-in-hand and cane be blamed for the destruction of the entire species. Do not purchase any kind of items that are made from wildlife! Maybe you can find yourself some vegan makeup, biodegradable phone case or local artisans’ items.

6. Transportation

When traveling anywhere, reduce your carbon footprint! Walk, rent a bike or take the public transportation whenever possible. You will help mother earth and your body as well. According to thesustainabletraveller.com, many other animal species that we grew up with will be either endangered or extinct by 2030. All this because we continue to use fossil fuels for energy and fuel in unnatural quantities.

7. Trash

Just because you do not see a trash can, it does not mean you through your garbage anywhere! The plastic pollution is responsible for the deaths of millions of animals each year. Please pack your reusable bags, cutlery, water bottles or any other recyclable items you own. Avoid single use plastic (especially in coastal destinations).
